In early August 2023, a series of wildfires broke out in the state of Hawai‘i, predominantly on Maui and in some regions of the island of Hawai‘i—also referred to as the Big Island. The fires, which are now considered the deadliest in modern U.S. history, have caused widespread devastation and damage and killed at least 111 people in the town of Lāhainā at the time of writing.
In light of the devastating events, artists in Shangri La's network have responded and given their time and creativity in support of Maui. Shangri La, a center of the Doris Duke Foundation, is a Honolulu-based museum for exploring the global cultures of Islamic Art. Please visit the links below to learn more about their efforts.
Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design and the Doris Duke Foundation have also contributed to Hawai‘i Community Foundation's Maui Strong Fund.
