"Put Ecological Restoration at the Center of Lahaina’s Recovery," Write DDF's David Wilcove, Sacha Spector and Léa Major in Op-ed

Honolulu Civil Beat published an op-ed by Sacha Spector, program director for the environment at the Doris Duke Foundation (DDF); Davild Wilcove, DDF trustee and professor at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs; and Léa Major, acting director and deputy director at Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design. The piece, written in response to the deadly wildfires that broke out on Maui and in some regions of the Big Island in Hawai‘i in August 2023, makes a compelling case about the need to center both Native Hawaiian voices and ecosystem restoration in recovery efforts to ensure protection for the environment and people.
